About the workshop

One laser. One room.
A slow pile of meaningful things.

The Happy Soul Workshop bench by candlelight

Happy Soul Workshop started in the corner of a room with a single laser, a stack of walnut offcuts, and a friend who needed something meaningful for the anniversary of getting sober.

That first plaque became the second, and the second became a small list of names, dates, and stories from strangers — people looking for keepsakes the big stores couldn't make. Memorials. Wedding signs. Cutting boards engraved with a grandmother's actual handwriting. Anniversary ornaments with inside jokes. Anatomical hearts for medical students. Skull plaques for the friends whose homes already had a shelf for the strange and beautiful.

We make things with the dark humor and the soft tenderness that the people in our lives needed.

Every piece is sketched, burned, sanded, oiled, and finished by hand — no two are identical. We work slowly on purpose. The workshop is the size of one good room, and that's what we want it to be.

Thanks for finding your way here. We hope something on these shelves finds its way to you — or to someone you love.

How a piece is made

Slowly,
on purpose.

  1. 01Sketch the piece by hand. Adjust until it feels right.
  2. 02Cut the wood from solid walnut, maple, or reclaimed barn lumber.
  3. 03Burn the design. The room smells like a campfire for a while.
  4. 04Sand by hand. Finish with food-safe oil or a matte sealant.
  5. 05Wrap, write a note by hand, and put it in the mail.
